There is no secret I love Star Trek. So what is my favorite? As a small child I remember watching reruns of the original around supper time each evening and I loved it and that was my first memories of sci-fi. I have been addicted to sci-fi ever since.
The late 80’s and early 90’s brought the next generation which I thought the stories were excellent and for the first time great character development. Data, Riker, Worf all became my friends. They were people I looked forward to seeing on their adventures every night. The next generation was hugely successful.
DS9 was pretty good as well but I thought for the most part it moved a little slow. The characters were pretty good particularly Odo. A shape shifter brought interest to the show and his character was great. The show did get really good with the dominion war. I kind of lost interest when they switched Dax. I think that was its jump the shark moment.
Voyager I think was my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong I liked it but it was lacking in some areas. First they were lost and it would take them 70 years to get home. With that premise I think the show should have shown more exploration then it did. I did not connect with the characters like I did with the other series. I think by the time Voyager ended people were getting tired of Star Trek. Oh today is Jeri Ryan’s (7 of 9) birthday.
Star Trek Enterprise came out and I wasn’t to sure about it. After all each consecutive Star Trek series got a little worse then the previous. Also I still have not recovered from the Voyager disappointment and I had enough of Star Trek or so I thought.
I watched the series premiere and I was instantly hooked. It takes place 100 years before the original. The character development was far better then any other Star Trek series. They were more identifiable and you can relate to them much more easily because they were not as goody two shoe as the other series. The show brought a lot more since of exploration and the unknown then the other series. I think mostly because this was mans first time to venture into deep space and many of the characters first time into space. They were green, naive and indecisive. The 3rd season was essentially a 24 part episode of the Enterprise trying to save Earth from the Xindi. This series rocked and it was by far my favorite of all the Star Trek series.
Sadly it only it only lasted 4 seasons. The ratings were not great because it was only played on the obscure Paramount channel and I guess a few had enough of Star Trek. If you missed this series get them on DVD because it is 999999999999999999999 times better then any Star Trek series bar non period.
